10 Days Old & Already a Super Model

We had our very first family photo shoot scheduled for when Jett was just 10 days old. It was a day of big firsts for us… a first for leaving our home since Jett was born, a first for a visit to Emma, (an amazing osteopath who had been working on me throughout my pregnancy) for me and for little Jett….

Riani, our photographer did a short write up on her blog  of her account of our time together….

There is something special about photographing newborn babies which I can’t exactly put my finger on…  Maybe it is because you have also photographed them whilst they  were still in their mom’s tummies during the maternity photoshoot or maybe it is just their angelic aura’s.

And with that I present to you baby Jett.  He is one of the most beautifully proportioned little babies that I have seen.  The perfect word to describe baby Jett is content, he doesn’t cry and whenever you put him down he lies there outstretched as if he’s in heaven.  He looks a lot like his father but then if you take a side on glance then he looks more like mom so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Outside the weather was cold & chilly but inside the studio the heater made everyone warm & cosy including baby.  Let me share the two secrets to photographing newborn babies with you: keep them warm and make sure their tummies are full… This will ensure that you have a happy “newborn baby model” and the parents will be re-assured.  Be ready to take photos

any time (even when you are changing the pose) as there is nothing cuter than a photo of a newborn baby yawning or smiling… J

Conscious, Intimate, Spontaneous & Magical: A Birth Vision for Jett

In an attempt to catch up on the last nine (almost ten) months where else to start but at the beginning…. This was the birth vision I wrote in preparation for the big day…. I think our actual birth plan is a bit too technical & boring to post (wE had about four different plans just to make sure we were covered in any conceivable eventuality… but I may just post Jett’s Birth Story that I wrote after he was born…. may post my actually birth plan (we had about six) a little later….

We vision the birth of our first child to be a conscious, gentle, spiritual, intimate, spontaneous and magical experience.

Our vision is to welcome our baby into this world while in a birthing pool at home. We vision being at home as our home is quiet, personal and secure. We are also in control of our surroundings and the procedures which are followed. We vision using a birthing pool as water during labour has been shown to relieve stress and tension to both mother and child. Birthing in water will also be kinder on Taiya’s perineum, allowing it to gently stretch as gravity has less influence on the speed of birth.

My very first blog post ever! Am I up for the challenge?

Wow… The pressure of my very first post! Where do I start? It may sound a little corny, but my 9 month old baby boy, the light of my life has inspired me to get this thing going…. From an amazing pregnancy to an empowering gentle water birth… My son has inspired me to think outside the box, to question the “norm” and to be proactive in co-creating our existence… The wealth of information that is available can be a little overwhelming so I have decided to start this blog in an attempt to streamline “little gems” I come across…. Before Jett, i had never read a blog in my life, but lately, I can’t seem to read enough…. So really… Still very new to this experience but I am sure it will be a fun ride…. Still trying to find my feet as I’m quite technically challenged…

It appears as though my first post needs to be cut short…. Time for a dream nurse…
